Cats are sensitive, timid animals with strong independence. Therefore, getting along with a cat takes gradual steps and plenty of patience.

First, feed the cat on a regular schedule; when adding food, softly call its name so it knows you are feeding it. Second, buy some cat toys such as a teaser wand or laser pointer, which most cats enjoy; spend 10 to 15 minutes playing with it daily. Finally, when the cat is willing to approach, gently stroke its head and back to help it slowly get used to human contact.
