1 Symptoms of Rabbit Ear Mite
Intense ear itching is the main sign, so the rabbit scratches constantly with its front paws, along with dullness, anxiety, low appetite, and weight loss. Outwardly: red, peeling, hairless ear skin that spreads, inflamed ear canal, drooling, thickened skin. Constant scratching worsens infection and can bring fever, convulsions, and seizures, ending in death.
2 Preventing and Treating Ear Mite
1. Stop spread: ear mange is highly contagious and can infect a whole litter. Isolate any sick rabbit at once to prevent cross-infection.
2. Treat: apply 2% trichlorfon on a cotton swab around the lesion once daily for 3 days; also inject ivermectin 0.2 mg/kg into the neck muscle once weekly for 3 doses.
3. Disinfect: it is pathogen-caused, so kill pathogens in the environment — spray 1% trichlorfon in the habitat weekly for 3 weeks, and thoroughly disinfect healthy rabbits twice, clearing waste and leftover feed.
4. Boost resistance: it strikes weak, low-resistance individuals, so balance greens and complete feed and add vitamins to raise immunity.
