1 Prairie Dog Breed Overview
The Prairie Dog, also called the groundhog (Marmot), is a rodent of the squirrel family. An adult averages 4.5 kg, up to 6.5 kg, about 56 cm long. It is mainly vegetarian, eating vegetables, alfalfa, lettuce, apple, pea, corn, and other produce; intake varies by season, generally 300-400 g daily.
It can live 15-20 years and competes with livestock for pasture; one adult eats 50-100 kg of good grass per active season.
