When you find a tick, remove it promptly and use a tick-specific external dewormer. For just one or two, you can do it manually: spray or press alcohol on the tick’s head to numb it and make it release, then pull it out slowly with tweezers.
If unsure, never force it out, or the mouthpart may stay and infect. A vet visit for deworming and removal usually only charges for the dewormer and is not costly. Deworm externally monthly, avoid grass and woods, and disinfect the environment.
