My cat meows at midnight, cries when confined, likes to jump on the bed; is it in heat and what should I do?

Midnight meowing is not necessarily heat. In heat, a cat is affectionate, raises its rear, wants to leave home, sprays urine, and calls, but its spirits and appetite stay normal. If the cat also has poor appetite, low spirits, or sleepiness besides meowing, it may be unwell. Observe its condition; if abnormal, consult a vet promptly. A newly arrived cat may keep crying from an unfamiliar environment, so give it toys or use pheromones or catnip to soothe it.
