1) Choose the right tank size. Silver arowana grow fast – up to 60 cm in the first year. Tank size strongly affects growth, so pick a tank at least 1.5 m long and 0.6 m wide and high. Too small a tank can deform the body and cause stress.

2) Keep water conditions stable. They prefer soft, slightly acidic water. They grow normally in pH 5.8-8.0, with 6.5-7.5 best, and hardness of 3-12.

3) Meet temperature needs. Keep the temperature steady at 26-30 C year-round, using heaters in winter and coolers in summer. Stable temperature protects their appetite.

4) Keep water clean. Change only one-quarter of the water at a time, refilling with the same amount of tap water left to stand 2-3 days to remove chlorine. A 20-30% weekly change is ideal; large swings cause refusal to eat, glass-surfing, or death.

5) Feed properly. Small fish and shrimp are best; insects like loach, crickets, and grasshoppers can supplement, but do not overfeed or digestion problems and refusal to eat may follow. Poor feeding can also cause drop-eye.
