How to tell if a goldfish is hungry?

Watch the swimming speed: a normal goldfish moves unhurriedly and gracefully, while a hungry one becomes active, roaming the tank searching for food and even nibbling moss or plants.

A hungry goldfish may poke its head above the water to catch surface insects and microbes. After long hunger it closely watches the owner, wags when approached and gulps food eagerly at feeding.
