How to express a cat’s anal glands?

First, prepare a pair of gloves, wipes or a towel, and lubricant. Second, place the cat in a comfortable and safe position and secure its body, for example by having someone hold it, or by placing it in a bag hung up, exposing only the head, limbs, and rear.

Then apply lubricant around the cat’s anal area to reduce discomfort. Finally, put on the gloves and gently squeeze both sides of the anal glands with thumb and forefinger until the secretions are expelled. After squeezing, gently wipe clean with a wipe or towel.
