When first brought home, a hamster does not know the owner and may bite out of fear; usually after 1 to 2 weeks of keeping it, it recognizes the owner and stops biting. Hamsters are gentle and not aggressive, biting only when cornered, so before bonding do not force contact.
Also, extreme hunger or irritability can cause biting, so feed the hamster regularly.
