The silver arowana is a large fish, so the tank should be at least 1.5×0.5×0.7 m and must be covered. Suitable water temperature is 27–28°C with pH 6.5–7.5; change about 30% of the water weekly to avoid sudden temperature or pH changes. Arowanas like small fish and shrimp and can also eat arowana pellets; don’t add too much food at once, because they don’t control their appetite well and overeating causes indigestion, and excess food sinking spoils water quality and makes them sick. Because they are gentle, they can be mixed with similar-sized fish, but keep the number low to avoid the arowana being bullied.
