Can feline rhinotracheitis (cat flu) be fatal?

A cat infected with feline rhinotracheitis can die; among low-immunity kittens the mortality rate can reach about 50%, and adult cats also have a mortality of about 20 to 30%. Feline rhinotracheitis is a common feline infectious disease that causes sneezing, runny nose, appetite loss, elevated temperature, lethargy, tearing, and red, swollen eyes.

If not treated promptly, the cat may develop mouth ulcers and dehydration, and later blindness; some cats with weaker resistance will gradually weaken and die. Therefore, a cat infected with feline rhinotracheitis should be taken to the vet promptly to avoid delaying treatment.
