Still, it is touching for an owner – it shows the dog’s unique love. A Kyoto University experiment with 34 dogs had the owner seek help from three stranger types (helpful, neutral, unkind); dogs accepted food from the first two but rejected the third, showing they read social interaction and judge trust by how strangers treat the owner.

Dogs excel at reading human body language and emotion; from movement, gesture, expression, behavior, and even micro-expressions they form impressions and tell good from bad.

2. Sharp Smell

A dog’s nose is acute – it can track its way home and may detect changes in human pheromones, noticing and remembering the scent of someone with ill intent.

3. Past Experience

Dogs read the room; a person about to do wrong leaks tells – even an unconscious gesture or glance – which the dog catches and judges against experience.

4. Self-Preservation Instinct

Dogs also avoid harm; this instinct can make them spot ‘bad’ people and keep away. For example, a dog that often sees someone beat or abuse dogs will bark and show hostility when that person approaches.

A dog’s love and loyalty to its owner are beyond question – hopefully owners observe and understand their dogs more, and feel the protection and care they give.
