1 Types of Hamster Bedding
Wood Shavings
Highly absorbent, they reduce odor and cage dampness and add warmth — good for winter. They’re cheap, but odor control is weak in summer and hamsters love to burrow and scatter them.
Paper Cotton
More absorbent and better at odor control than shavings, soft and warm for winter. Spread a layer; more in winter, thin in summer. Replace soiled spots often and all of it about weekly (more often in heat). It’s pricey, so mainly used by owners who can afford frequent changes.
Cat Litter
Absorbent, great at odor control, and easy to clean, but larger hamsters can crush it and may eat it. Choose low-dust litter to protect their airways.
Pick based on your situation, but change bedding often — even good bedding left too long smells and breeds bacteria and can harm your hamster.

Cooling Sand
Usually bentonite cat litter — cheap and easy to find.
Tofu Cat Litter

Wood Pellets
More expensive with less cooling than sand or tofu, but nearly dust-free and the gentlest on the hamster.
