The best time for jowling is between a cat’s first heat and neutering, and only male cats do it. Males usually come into heat around 8 months; to encourage jowls, feed protein-rich foods like beef and chicken and hard items like chew sticks to exercise the jaw muscles. Most males can jowl, but it relates to breed – domestic, Siamese, Russian Blue, Sphynx, and Maine Coon cats do not jowl.
