Are turtles sensitive to heat?

Turtles do mind the heat. They grow best in an environment of about 23–26°C; within this range, the warmer it is, the stronger their appetite and the faster they grow. As the temperature keeps rising, their appetite continues to increase, but so does their energy expenditure, so their growth rate actually drops.

Once the temperature climbs above 30°C, both their appetite and growth slow down. Therefore, to support normal development, when summer temperatures are high you should move the turtle indoors or set up some shade above the pond to avoid direct sunlight on the water.
