2 Diet
Purple Campbells are omnivores that eat vegetables, grains, and seeds, and are commonly fed weed seeds and commercial hamster mixes, occasionally catching insects. They do not hibernate in winter but store large amounts of food to get through it. Owners can also offer raw sunflower seeds, mealworms, and peanuts, with fruit given occasionally.
3 Habitat
Purple Campbells have a keen sense of smell, so bedding must be chosen carefully. Strongly scented wood shavings — such as pine or cedar — can cause allergic reactions and even death, especially cedar. Aspen shavings are a safe choice.
4 Telling Purple Coat from Winter White
You can distinguish them by the coat’s gradient: the Winter White’s fur fades from gray to white with no transitional color, while the purple Campbell’s gray-to-white coat shows a faint yellow layer in between — easy to spot once you know what to look for.
