📝 Summary

A dog's life is short; by seven or eight it is like a 50-year-old human and aging begins. From about 7 they enter old age. Here is daily care for seniors.

1 Overview

The clearest sign of aging is weakness, weight loss, and declining sight and hearing.

By age 10 (like a 65-year-old human) teeth wear and yellow, and bite weakens. Skin and coat change clearly: dry, loose, less elastic, lower resistance, easy skin disease; more shedding, lighter or white fur; dark fur turns gray; white around head and mouth.

Feed high-quality, easy-to-chew, easy-to-digest food.

In feeding, use small frequent meals; keep the dog company for a happy mood; given low resistance, protect against cold and heat; older dogs dislike exercise, so walk them often for circulation and do not disrupt their habits.

Old dogs lose the looks and vigor of youth but gain depth and understanding and a deep bond with the owner – precious indeed. Care well for the dog that spent its life with you.
