Why Is a Hamster’s Urine Yellow?

๐Ÿ“ Summary

Healthy hamster urine is pale yellow; dark yellow signals a problem. Take it seriously. Here is why it happens.

1 Internal Heat

Dark urine often means internal heat, as in people. Check for high-calorie or fatty food; if so, it is heat. Give more water, mung-bean skin, vegetables and fruit for vitamins to clear heat โ€” recovery in about two days.

2 Kidney or Other Issues

If heat is ruled out, consider kidney trouble or stones โ€” urine turns yellow with sediment. See a vet. Reproductive disease also yellows urine; inflammation can too โ€” a little amoxicillin reduces inflammation.

3 Summer Dehydration

In hot summer, water evaporates fast; without refill, urine yellows. Coax more drinking with clean, often-changed water, and keep the diet light, avoiding mealworms and dried fish (high fat, heat).

4 Note

Heat and dehydration are minor, but other causes warrant a check. For more hamster care, consult an online veterinarian.
