1 White Film Over an Arowana’s Eye

1) Causes. Environmental: cloudy water, high ammonia, or wrong temperature can coat the eye in white film. Infection or illness: tuberculosis-like bacteria in the water infect the eye and form the film.

2) Treatment. The ‘old three’ method (water change, salt, heat) works for mild, water-related film with no medication: change one-third of the water daily adding the same amount of new water, add salt, and keep temperature at 30-32 C with matched temperatures. For bacterial film, use a fish-specific antiseptic or antibiotic, raising temperature 2-3 C so the drug dissolves and absorbs; reduce dosage as the fish improves and avoid residue that could cause reinfection.
