How long before a hamster can be held in the hand?

Expert Answer

Once a hamster is familiar with the owner it will approach on its own, and then the owner can let it onto the hand. Usually after 1 to 2 weeks of keeping it, the hamster gradually trusts the owner and the owner can try guiding it onto the hand.

A bonded hamster is very dependent, coming toward the owner, begging for food, and if ignored for long may get angry and chew the cage.
