Stored properly, alfalfa hay can last 1-2 months without spoiling. Do not buy too much at once – enough for about one month is fine.

If the hay gives off a urine-like smell, it has spoiled and must not be fed. Also, rabbits over 6 months old should not eat too much alfalfa.

Alfalfa is nutritious and suits growing young rabbits, but adult rabbits eating large amounts can easily become obese and develop various health problems.
