How to Train a Dog to Fetch Things?

Pick a favorite toy, play with it, and reward a snack whenever the dog holds it. To make it give the toy, offer a ‘drop’ command before it spits it out, trading with food; reward right after it drops.

After repeats, throw the toy a distance; reward when it brings it back and drops. Once fetch is learned, tie the toy to other objects, swap them, and add the item’s command to teach fetching slippers, remotes, etc.
