A hamster generally needs about 3 to 7 days to adapt to a new environment. When you first bring it home it will feel nervous and uneasy, so keep it in its cage for the first three days with enough food and water and avoid disturbing it frequently. When changing its food, move gently so as not to scare it.

From the fourth day after arriving home, you can try feeding it by hand through the bars so it gets used to and remembers your scent. While feeding, you can softly call its name to build a conditioned response, and during this period you need to be patient.
