A puppy that is not dried may catch a cold, especially on windy or cloudy days. After a warm bath, going out into the wind easily causes a cold and, in severe cases, can even lead to pneumonia. Damp fur also breeds bacteria, lowers skin immunity and can cause skin problems such as eczema and ringworm.

Many dogs are playful, and if not dried promptly they may roll on the ground and get dirty again. Owners should wipe and thoroughly dry the coat after every bath.
