Generally a kitten uses litter at 1 to 2 months. At this weaning stage the mother licks the anus less; under 2 weeks the mother must lick to trigger defecation. After 1 month the kitten feels the urge and seeks a spot; since the mother uses the box, the kitten follows the scent there. For an adopted kitten with no other cat, put its feces in the prepared box so it returns there next time.
