Do hamster teeth need trimming?

Hamster teeth generally do not need trimming, because they usually eat nuts that wear the teeth while chewing, so they do not grow too long. But some hamsters prefer soft food; to slow growth, offer apple-branch chew sticks. If a hamster truly will not wear its teeth and eating is affected, trimming is needed; smooth the edges afterward to avoid cutting the mouth, or have a vet do it.
