Can a cat’s broken lumbar spine heal on its own?

A broken cat lumbar spine generally cannot heal on its own, and the chance of a cure is fairly low. A broken lumbar spine affects the motor nerves; even if the fracture heals, the cat’s mobility may not return. So in this situation take the cat to a veterinary hospital promptly and determine a treatment plan based on the bone damage, to avoid lasting aftereffects.

Without stressing the cat, get it to the vet immediately for a DR X-ray and myelography, then operate as needed. If the cat’s condition is very severe with no chance of recovery, euthanasia may be considered.
