A widely circulated folk method for finding a lost dog is to fill a bowl with clean water, place an open pair of scissors on top with the blades pointing out the window or door, and put a piece of the dog’s favorite food on the scissors — supposedly the dog will find its way back on its own. Although many people claim to have tried it and found it effective, it is still best to combine such methods with scientific approaches.

Post about the lost dog in your social circles, check nearby surveillance footage to determine the route it took, put up lost-dog notices, and so on, to further increase the odds of getting it back.
