How should I hold a cat?

The correct way to hold a cat is to support its front limbs with one hand and prop up its hind legs and rump with the other, letting the cat lean back against your chest. This gives the cat a strong sense of security, so it stays obedient and gentle in your arms.

If holding a kitten you are meeting for the first time, you can use the baby-hold, letting the cat rest against you.

But if the cat has a rather fiery temper, the baby-hold is not recommended.
