On farms, cats show more ‘digging interest’ in fine sand or dust; with larger gravel they lose interest. So try a different litter grain size and compare.

Note: don’t fill too much litter, about 3–5 cm is enough.

About the litter box

Some owners miss the cat’s growth from kitten to adult — the box stays the same size??

Choose a high-sided box to reduce spill. Pick a bigger one, at least over half the cat’s nose-to-tail length. You can DIY a flat box.

Note: some cats need a transition — place the new box next to the old until they adapt.

About not using the box

① First rule out kidney and urinary disease

② Box: bigger, cleaner, unscented material

③ Litter: most cats like clumping, unscented

④ Location: quiet, with multiple escape routes~

⑤ Surface preference: some cats favor certain surfaces, like carpet, bedding, flowerpots.

⑥ Household stress: window? people? multiple cats/dogs?

⑦ Aversion: the box is linked to bad experiences; rebuild the association.
