Shivering with low spirit usually points to one of these three:

1. Stress

Under stress, cats show low spirit, shivering, and lost appetite; severe cases bring vomiting and diarrhea.

Cats are delicate and timid, so new environments, things, or owners can frighten them into shivering. New owners often see this after bringing a cat home, moving, car rides, or vet visits. These are mild stress reactions.

Owners with little patience should note: loud scolding, sudden scares, rough dragging, baths, or forced medication can stress a cat into shivering. Stay calm; when stressed, leave it alone in a quiet, warm, cozy spot, and see a vet if it vomits or has diarrhea.

2. Chills and cold

A chilled cat sneezes, coughs, runs nose and eyes; shivering comes from low temperature and poor warmth, like a person shaking from cold.

If no cold signs yet, just warm it—place the bed out of drafts, use a pet heating pad or hot-water bottle, and boost nutrition and immunity (weak immunity invites colds). For weaker cats, an IgY immune supplement helps. Add exercise to build resistance.

If sneezing and runny nose appear, the cat has a cold—give a pet cold medicine to control symptoms.

3. Physical pain

Severe pain from disease or injury shows as low spirit and shivering. Cats hide pain well; shivering from pain means it’s serious—see a vet at once to find and treat the cause.
