Why don’t sharks eat manta rays?

Sharks do not eat manta rays mainly because mantas are very strong and have some toxicity, so sharks generally do not provoke them easily. The manta’s toxin is concentrated in the spine of its tail; when in danger it stabs the barb into an enemy, and the toxin can greatly harm other creatures, even stunning some fish or aquatic animals.

If a person is accidentally stung by a manta, there may be swelling and skin shedding, and in severe cases confusion or fainting; seek medical care as soon as possible.
