1 Why Dog Poop Smells Bad

5. Viruses. Parvovirus or coronavirus invade the gut, unbalance the flora, and damage the mucosa; watch the stool for two to three days, and if diarrhea appears, test for viral infection.
2 What to Do About Foul-Smelling Stools
Recall whether you fed extra treats lately; if so, feed only kibble for a while and see if the smell eases.
If the diet was clean, check the kibble for mold or expiry — store it dry and sealed. Some foods are just greasy; switch them. Then add water and exercise to move the gut, and for a naturally weak digester, a course of probiotics.
