Dogs lick their noses mainly to keep the nose moist, which helps collect and identify scents. In addition, when a dog feels uneasy or frightened it often licks its nose to ease stress and calm itself; when it smells favorite food, saliva flows and this behavior also appears.
Moreover, if a dog swallows a foreign object and the resulting stomach discomfort brings on an urge to vomit, it may also lick its nose frequently.
