Why can’t my chick close its beak?

A chick that can’t close its beak may be caused by external injury, sores at the mouth corners, or a too-dry beak, or it may have food stuck in its mouth that it can’t swallow or spit out. Check the beak carefully for foreign objects or trauma.

If the beak is too dry, give it some water and add nutrients like vitamin C to its drinking water. If there’s a wound, clean it with saline and add vitamin B2 and E to its diet to help skin repair. If symptoms don’t improve, contact a vet promptly.
