Some guinea pigs mature sexually quite early, already at about 20 days after birth, so it is advised to cage them separately from the mother around 20 days. Same-litter females and males should also be separated to avoid tragic inbreeding. Guinea pigs are timid and have good hearing, so during keeping keep the environment quiet and noise below 50 decibels.
