When should a cat get its first vaccine?

A cat’s first vaccine should be given after 8 weeks of age, because kittens under 8 weeks carry maternal antibodies that protect them, and cat vaccines are usually live-attenuated; if given too early, the maternal antibodies neutralize part of the vaccine and weaken the immune effect.

A cat’s first vaccination round needs three FVRCP shots and one rabies shot, with 21 to 28 days between FVRCP shots; the rabies vaccine can only be given after the cat is 3 months old.
