A Bichon’s coat usually curls at about 4-5 months. It is born with puppy fur, then grows guard hairs that replace the puppy coat. This is the awkward phase with mixed old and new fur, making its face look like a little monkey.

After this phase the Bichon becomes pretty, with better-quality curly coat.
