What to Feed a Nursing Rabbit to Boost Milk
π Summary
Low milk in a doe usually means she needs more nutrition, and the fix ranges from lactogenic greens like dandelion and lettuce to malt, soy milk with brown sugar, crushed sesame and peanuts, or human lactation tablets. Have her eat the placenta, help with nest-building if needed, and massage the udder with a warm towel β for a stubborn case, an ovulation-hormone injection helps.
1 Measures to Boost Milk
First find why milk is low, then act. If her nutrition is already decent, try these:
Feed lactogenic succulent greens in season β dandelion, lettuce leaves, carrot, pumpkin, and any edible plant whose stems and leaves bleed white sap all help milk flow.
Give 50 g of raw malt directly, or 200 g of boiled soy milk mixed with 5β10 g of warm brown-sugar water, once daily.
Mash a pinch of sesame, 10 peanuts, and 3β5 yeast tablets and feed once daily.
Feed 3β5 human lactation tablets daily for three days.
Inject an ovulation-stimulating hormone β 3β5 mcg intramuscularly, a single dose β for does with poor output.
At delivery, make sure she eats the afterbirth; if she does not pull fur before birth, help her. Massaging the udder with a warm towel before each nursing also stimulates milk.
Methods differ by doe, so match the approach to the individual.
