What to do if a red-eared slider won’t eat?

A red-eared slider refusing food is often due to unsuitable water temperature — the ideal range is 23–30°C. Below 15°C the turtle gradually enters hibernation and stops eating and moving; above 35°C it refuses food and immunity drops. First adjust the temperature to 23–28°C and keep it stable, then try feeding after 1–2 days. Long-term feeding of the same food can also cause pickiness — try live foods like earthworms, small fish, and shrimp. A turtle new to its environment may also refuse food for a couple of days while adjusting. If all these are ruled out, the cause may be enteritis requiring prompt medication.
