What should I do about my cat’s red, swollen gums?

A cat’s red, swollen gums are usually caused by heat, stomatitis or gingivitis. If the redness is from heat, give the cat more water, such as cooling foods like mung bean soup, but note the soup must not contain sugar. Also lower the protein in the diet during this period. If the cat has stomatitis or gingivitis, give oral anti-inflammatory medicine and an antibacterial spray; if there is serious tartar, take the cat to a clinic for a dental cleaning.
