What should I do about dense black dots on my cat’s skin?

Clusters of tiny black dots on a cat’s skin may mean a heavy flea infestation, where the black specks are flea bodies and feces. If you find these dots on the skin surface and in the fur, use a fipronil-based parasite treatment promptly, then bathe the cat three days later to clear the dirt from the skin.

On the other hand, feline folliculitis can also produce dense black dots, much like blackheads on human skin and harder to clean. Have a vet do a skin scraping to confirm, then treat with antibiotic skin medication; and avoid feeding the cat overly greasy food.
