What Happens with a Dog’s Perianal Tumor?

A perianal tumor is a benign growth around the anus, usually a lipoma or adenoma. Generally it does not cause great harm, but it may lead to infection, pain, and defecation discomfort.

First, it may press on the rectum or anus, causing discomfort or pain during defecation. Second, its surface easily traps feces or bacteria, causing infection, inflammation, and local swelling. Finally, a larger tumor may affect appearance and even mobility, so see a vet to decide if surgical removal is needed based on size and position.
