What happens right after a female dog mates?

Right after mating a female dog shows mild signs like lethargy and a swollen vulva. Inexperienced dogs may be clearly startled, sensitive and irritable for a short time, so comfort her emotions. If mating succeeded, the vulva begins shrinking in about a week, and at 12-20 days breasts swell with reddening skin around nipples.

After 20 days she shows lethargy and poor appetite, some with morning sickness. At about 40 days take her for an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy.
