Bathing a dog too often washes away the protective oil layer on the skin, making it sensitive. The natural barrier is lost.
This leads to shedding, itching, redness, and dandruff; when severe it can even lead to eczema, ringworm, or mange. Skin problems follow.
So generally bathe a dog every 2-3 weeks, no more than once a week in summer. Use a pet-specific shampoo.
Dry the coat thoroughly after washing to best protect skin health. A damp coat invites trouble.
