What happens if dog rheumatism (arthritis) is left untreated?

Canine rheumatism is usually arthritis—a chronic inflammation causing joint pain, stiffness, and deformity that limits movement. Untreated, inflammation worsens and the dog may lose the ability to walk.

Joints can suffer permanent damage, deform, and muscles atrophy, lowering quality of life; chronic pain may cause anxiety or depression. Follow vet treatment—NSAIDs, chondroprotectives, plus heat, acupuncture, or joint replacement.
