What happens if a parrot is calcium deficient?

Calcium deficiency in parrots can cause several problems. In growing chicks it leads to poor bone development, with weak, deformed bones and weak legs. In adults it can cause osteoporosis, fractures, bone deformity, slow movement, and trouble standing.

Deficient parrots may also show beak shedding, dry cracked lips, and dull, broken, or falling feathers. In hens, calcium shortage harms breeding, causing soft-shelled eggs, sand-shell eggs, or egg binding.
