What happens if a Golden Retriever lacks calcium?

Calcium deficiency in Golden Retrievers easily leads to poor bone development and joint deformation. Puppies may develop O-shaped or X-shaped legs, and in severe cases even lameness or paralysis.

If a puppy is calcium deficient during teething, its baby teeth will not fall out and adult teeth grow slowly, causing a double row of teeth. Calcium deficiency also slows growth, resulting in a smaller stature, and often causes poor appetite, rough and dull coat, and similar symptoms.
