What Happens If a Dog Is Scalded?

A scalded dog develops redness, swelling, heat, and pain with serous inflammation, and in severe cases large-area edema. Quickly move the dog away from the heat source to avoid further contact.

Next, rinse the injured area with cool water to cool the burn and relieve pain; do not use ice water or ice, which can cause cold burns or other problems. For a small burn area, apply burn ointment and fit an Elizabethan collar to prevent licking and infection.

For a large burned area or if the wound becomes infected, seek veterinary treatment promptly.
