What happens if a dog eats toothpaste?

Pet-specific toothpaste is usually harmless because it is edible. A small amount of human toothpaste is also fine; just give the dog some probiotics and water and observe.

But some toothpastes contain xylitol and fluoride, which can poison a dog. If you see vomiting or lethargy, take it to the vet promptly.
